Neil Atkinson (September 29 1979 – November 15th 2013)

(Photos by Michelle Heighway)

Neil Atkinson left us at age of 34 years old.

I heard this sad news yesterday.
Neil was a drummer of the Window Right from Huddersfield, UK.
I made 4 performances with the Window Right.
Now I’m remembering him to be together with him this moment.
Please listen this while you’re reading this message,

I was informed, his loved ones played this at his funeral… it’ a beautiful song.

Long before I met the Window Right for first time, I’ve got their CDR, someone handed to me after the show (I guess in London?) That period, I used to carry CD/Rs that I like everywhere I go, listen together with local friends or used as a prelude before or after Network performance. Since first I listened to Window Right I liked so much, so it became one of my collection of CD/R travelling kit.

First time I met Neil with the Window Right on Friday January 27th 2006, they’re a supporting band that night. At back stage, I spoke with them and showed my CD/R travelling kit, then they found their CDR there. Even I was forgetting that I’ve the Window Right in my collection until they say we’re the Window Right you have in your collection. We both’re happy to know each other.            Local organiser Ned Netherwood was living that time in Huddersfield and he reviewed on his web.

Cornerhouse on Friday 27th January 2006 The Window Right as a supporting band.

First time I heard them live, even I liked much more than CDR and we both promised to perform next time in Huddersfield together.

Ned arranged next Network performance in Huddersfield  with Window Right on Saturday 7th April 2007 at The Parish [the Cornerhouse changed name], along with Neil Campbell/Astral Social Club.

Year later I performed with them  on Thursday 13 November 2007 Leeds Brudenel Social Club

Ned moved to Hebdon Bridge, one of my favourite space in UK.

He arranged the show with Neil and the Window Right again on Saturday 31 July 2010 Trades Club in Hebden Bridge

I had opportunity to perform  in London on Tuesday 23 March 2010 @ Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen. I asked them if they like to perform with me.
They’re really happy to perform first time in London.

How I can say, I’m really shocked and sad, lost of my lovely sound carrier.
He was with us for only 34 years.
I can remember clearly, we had good time together and create time and space of the moment.

Neil forever.
Sincere Condolences to his family and his loved ones.

Damo Suzuki / January 19 2014

Total Journey (2013) : About 113,290.00 KM (2.8 x around earth)

Total Journey : About 113,290.00 KM (2,8 x around earth)
68 concerts in 15 countries.
Joined by around 480 local sound carriers (musicians)

Every show is unique.
La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland to Dublin, Ireland.
I’m so happy to retrospect all those shows, sound carriers performed with me, create positive energy to share. Audience took their worthy time enjoyed new experience with Network, after the show there were smiles on faces, everybody was so beautiful
All staffs involved in those shows. Local promoters curate local sound carriers….
Venues which gave me opportunity to perform.

Without supports of all these people, it was not possible to Network performances.
With this sort of music, it is not possible to reach massive amount of audience.
But, people visited Network performances were special like music we made.
Each one is unique.

There are only few things wish for next year…. But, actually only ONE.
I continue „Never Ending Tour“, create time and space of the moment with local sound carriers and share energy to audience.

If I can see your SMILE after show, it will be also good year.
(I’m sure)
Feel Free Energy

„In the year 2010, I became 60 years old. To celebrate 60 is something special for Japanese as it is 5 x 12 zodiac. At least once in my life, I wished to know more about my native country, so I present myself for my 60th birth year: I spend around 3 months travel through the country I was born and grow up before I left to Sweden. During this trip I met Simon and Bettina in Osaka at one of my Network performances.

After while, Simon contacted me, he and Bettina, both are art students, found interest to do an art project that zoom into Damo Suzuki’s life before joined to that German band.

In 2012, I went back to Gräsmark for first time since 40 years. There I met Gittan, her sister and few other people knowing me from the end of 60’s when I lived there. Sadly I couldn’t meet Helga, my Swedish mother, she died few years ago. All my memories came back like it all happened yesterday. Suddenly my body was covered by time and space of that period of my life.

Simon and Bettina’s project – their life connecting with my time and space I spent when I was young: This book is not just research of my life. Simon and Bettina left their foot prints on my life softly.“
Damo Suzuki, 2013

When Damo Suzuki came to Europe for the first time, he lived in a village in Sweden. In the early Seventies, he went to Germany, where he met members of the German band and became the lead singer of them for threer years.
This book is a biographical photo book with private and yet unpublished photos from the early Seventies and today. It also contains excerpts from private letters, lyrics, drawings and emails by Damo Suzuki and newspaper articles about him.
Since Damo Suzuki decided not to do studio work anymore, but rather perform with his Network, there are no recordings available anymore. This live recording of a Damo Suzuki show, recorded in Stockholm in February 2013, is a collector’s item: The box including the photo book and a 12inch vinyl is limited to 500 and only available at the Clouds Hill Online Shop.
